MAHADEWI DAN MAHARANI

Once upon a time, there was a kingdom far far away, where its people were prosperous and wealthy. The kingdom was led by a wise King and Queen. They had two beautiful daughters. The older daughter was named Mahadewi while the younger one was named Maharani. Unfortunately, they both had different characters, just like fire and rain. Mahadewi was very arrogant and selfish. Meanwhile, Maharani was very friendly and kind. Mahadewi always behaved rudely to Maharani. However, Maharani always forgave her sister. The hatred that Mahadewi had was getting bigger and bigger when they grew up.

**************************** SCENE 1****************************

As usual, Mahadewi is busy getting dressed in her room.

Mahadewi       : “Maid! Bring my shoes here!”

Maid 1              : (Coming to Mahadewi, kneeling) “Here they are, Your     Highness”

Mahadewi       : (Looking at her shoes) “What? These shoes? I am bored with them! Bring me the other ones!”

Maid 2            : (Bringing other shoes ) “How about these ones, Your Highness?”

Mahadewi       : (Throwing the shoes away) “No! I wore those shoes yesterday! I want the new ones! Just buy me new shoes!”

Maid 1&2        : “Now, Your Highness?”

Mahadewi       : “No, Next year! Of course! Right now, right away! Now, Go!”

Maid 1&2        : “As you wish, Your Highness” (Tidying up the shoes then leaving)

(The King, Queen and Maharani are coming in to Mahadewi’s Room)

Maharani         : (Being hit by Maid 1) “Oh my God!”

Maid 1             : (Rising up then kneeling)“Please forgive me, Your Highness. I didn’t see you, Your Highness, It was a coincidence.”

Maharani         : (Sprucing her dress)“Never mind, I am fine, just leave, I forgive you.”

Maid 1&2        : Thank you very much, Your Highness” (leaving the room)

Mahadewi       : “Why do Father and Mother come to my room?”

The Queen       : “We have been waiting for you so long, dear. There something your father would like to say to you.”

The King         : “The Prince from another kingdom is going to come to our palace, he will choose, between you both, someone to become his wife, to become the queen in his kingdom. People say that the Prince is very handsome and gallant.”

Maharani         : “When is he going to come, Father?”

The King         : “Today. Perhaps, he has already come”

The Queen       : “I hope you both treat our guest warmly and well.”

Mahadewi       : “Leave it to me, Mother. I will serve and treat the Prince well when he is here. I am sure that I will be his queen.”

The King         : “Well, we should be ready to welcome them, shouldn’t we?”

**************************** SCENE 2****************************

Not long after that, the Prince and his guards arrive in the palace.

The Prince       : “How do I look, my guard?”

The Guard       : “You don’t look like a prince, Your Majesty. Actually, Why do we have to do this deceiving play, Your Majesty?”

The Prince       : “Perfect. Well, I just want to know their personalities, and who, between both of them, has a kinder heart and love me, just the way I am without considering my social status as a prince.”

The Guard       : “I understand, Your Majesty”

The Prince       : “I don’t want anyone knows that you are the fake prince. Can you promise me to keep our secret?”

The Guard       : “Yes, Your Majesty. I will keep the secret.”

(The maids are walking towards them)

Maid 1             : “We are very sorry to keep you waiting, Your Majesty.”

Maid  2           : “The King, the Queen and their two princesses will come immediately.”

The Guard       : “Yes, Thank you.”

(Here come the members of the kingdom)

The King         : (Hugging the guard) “Welcome to our kingdom, my Prince.”

The Queen       : “How was you trip, my Prince? Was it fun?”

The Guard       : “Of course. Your palace is more beautiful than I’ve imagined, Your Majesty.”

(Mahadewi is geting rid of the real prince who is disguising as the guard, then approaching the fake prince)

Mahadewi       : “Let me introduce myself, Your Majesty. I am Princess Mahadewi. It’s an honour for me to meet you, Your Majesty.”

The Guard       : “Oh, It’s nice to meet you too, Princess Mahadewi.”

The Prince       : “So, this beautiful young lady, (pointing Maharani) must be Princess Maharani”

Mahadewi       : “How dare you, Guard, to speak in front of us here! You’re just an inferior. You don’t have any right to speak!”

Maharani         : “It’s all right, sister. Well, I’d like to introduce myself, Your Majesty. My name is Maharani.”

The King         : “Oh, Well… The Queen and I still have some urgent concerns. We regret that we have to leave.”

The Queen       : “Mahadewi dan Maharani, please take the prince walking around the palace. Your Majesty, we must leave now.”

The Guard       : “Yes, it’s all right, Your Highness. ”

(The King and the Queen are leaving)

Mahadewi       : (Pushing away the real prince and approaching the fake prince) “Would you like to walk around with me, Your Majesty?”

Maharani         : “Please, this way, Your Majesty.”

Mahadewi       : (Pushing Maharani away) Let me! You deserve to be with that despicable guard!” (laughing, then taking the fake prince away with her)

Maharani         : “On behalf of my sister, I’m sorry for what she said to you. She didn’t mean to hurt you.”

The Prince       : “I deserved to get that, Your Highness. I am just an ordinary guard. I have no value.”

Maharani         : “Oh, Don’t say such thing. Whether we are a guard or even a prince, we are all the same. We have to respect each other without any exception.”

(The Prince is looking at Maharani, feeling amazed)

Maharani         : “Excuse me, is there anything wrong?”

(The Prince suddenly awakens from his instant silence of thinking)         

The Prince       : “Please, forgive me, Your Highness. I humbly say that Your Highness not only has a beautiful face but also a beautiful heart.”

Maharani         : “Oh, thank you very much. Well, now I’ll take you to walk around the palace.”

****************************SCENE 3****************************

Mahadewi and the fake prince enter the living room of the palace.

Mahadewi       : “Maid, prepare the chairs and the table for us!”

(The maids are tidying up the chairs and the table. Mahadewi and the fake prince then sit on the chairs)

The Guard       : “Thank you”

Mahadewi       : “Your Majesty. (Looking at the maids angrily). Why are you still here? Leave! Don’t disturb us!”

(The maids are leaving the room)

Mahadewi       : “So, would you like to tell me about you and your kingdom, Your Majesty?”

(Mahadewi and the fake prince are enjoying their conversation. A few moments later, suddenly two maids are reaching towards them)

Maid 1             : “I beg your pardon, Your Highness.”

Mahadewi       : “What happens?”

Maid 2             : “The King and Queen asked Your Highness, Princess Mahadewi, and Your Majesty to dine.”

Mahadewi       :   “Oh, that’s great. Your Majesty, let’s have dinner, shall we?”

The maids are following them behind

****************************SCENE 4****************************

Maharani         :” Maid, has the guard of the prince had his dinner?”

Maid 1             : “I’m afraid, he hasn’t had his dinner, Your Highness.”

Maharani         : “Please, get him some dinner. He is also a guest in our palace. We should treat him well.”

Maid 2             :  “Yes, Your Highness. We’ll do it.”

(Maid 1 and Maid 2 are leaving)

Meanwhile, in the kitchen, the real prince is sitting alone, then the maids are coming towards him.

Maid 1             : “Take the meal as you wish, Guard. You haven’t eaten dinner yet, have you?”

The Prince           : “Thank you.”

Maid 2             : “Your Highness, Princess Maharani, is a kind girl indeed. She’s very contrast to Princess Mahadewi.”

The Prince       : “How could you say so? Please, tell me about them.”

The maids tell him all about the way Princess Mahadewi behaves in front of Pincess Maharani. This makes the Prince convinced that Maharani is the best princess for him.

The Prince       : “Thank you very much for the meal and the information. I should leave now.”

Maid 1             : “Your welcome. We should leave to our room too.”

****************************SCENE 6****************************

Meanwhile, in the garden of the palace, Maharani is enjoying herself looking at the stars in the sky until Mahadewi comes.

Mahadewi       : “Maharani! Come here, you!”

Maharani         : “What happens, sister? Is there anything wrong?”

Mahadewi       : “Do you like the Prince?”

Maharani         : “Pardon me? Why did you ask me such question?”

Mahadewi       : “I just want to be ensured that you will not disturb my effort to become a queen!”

Maharani         : “What do you mean, sister?”

Mahadewi       : “Don’t pretend like you are just a good girl! Never ever disturb me! The Prince is mine. You don’t deserve to get him!”

Maharani         : “But, Sister. He has the right to choose one between us. He may choose me instead of you.”

Mahadewi      : “What did you just say? He chooses you? Don’t ever think it is going to happen, Maharani! I want the Prince and I’ll get him.”

Maharani         : “But…”

Mahadewi       : “But, what? Are you trying to fight against me? (Pushing Maharani away) Remember! I am your older sister, you must obey what I say! Do you understand me?”

Maharani         : “Yes, I do, sister.”

Mahadewi       : “Good. That’s much better.”

(Maharani is leaving to her room)

****************************SCENE 7****************************

The day after, the King and Queen are sitting together while being fanned by maids.

The King         : “My Queen, Who, do you think, will be chosen by the Prince?”

The Queen       : “Well, I think, whoever the Prince finally chooses is the best one. It’s all up to the Prince.”

(Then, the Prince and his guard come in)

The guard        : “Good morning, Your Majesty, Your Highness. May I speak in front of all members of the Royal Family?”

The King         : “Of course, my Prince.”

The Queen       : “Maid, ask two my beloved princesses to be here.”

(Maids are leaving to call the princesses)

Mahadewi       : “What happens, Mother?”

Maharani         : “Is there anything wrong, Father?”

The Queen       : “My dear.. the Prince would like to say something.”

The King         : “You may speak now, My Prince.”

The Guard       : “Actually…”

The Princ         : ”I am the real Prince.”

Mahadewi       : “How dare you, Guard. What do you mean?”

The Guard       : “I am only an ordinary guard, Your Highness. My Prince asked me to…”

Mahadewi       : “What? Pretending to be the Prince?!”

Maharani         : “So, that means…”

The Prince       : “That means I choose you, Princess Maharani, instead of Princess Mahadewi.”

Maharani         : “So, you are the Prince?”

The Prince       : “Yes. Believe me. I disguised to become the guard. I am the real prince.”

Maharani         : “Yes, I believe you, Your Majesty”

The Prince       : “Maharani, Would you marry me and become my Queen?”

Maharani         : “Of course, I would love to.”

The King         : “Well, It’s better for us to talk about it in the State room of the palace”

The Queen       : “I agree. Come on, My Prince. Let’s talk about your wedding with Maharani.”

(All people are leaving Mahadewi and the Guard all alone)

Mahadewi       : “It’s not fair! Why? Why did it happen to me? I am very fortuneless!”

The Guard       : (Approaching Mahadewi) “Take it easy, My Princess. There is still someone that will marry you. And the man is me.”

Mahadewi       : “No! Stay away from me! You are never decent to marry me!”

The Guard       : “Come on, Princess..”

Mahadewi       : “Don’t get closed to me! Go away!”

The Guard       : “Come on..”

Mahadewi       : “Once I say ‘no’, it means ‘no’ forever!”

(The Guard pulls Mahadewi’s hands)

Mahadewi       : “Let me go!” (Running away from the guard)

Mahadewi       : “Father! Mother! Help me!” (leaving the guard all alone)

The Guard       : “Why? What is wrong with me? Princess! I love you! Wait for me!”

(The guard is running after the princess)
